NEW THREAT To Landlords And Employers As Home Office Tripple Fines For Supporting Illegal Immigrants

Just when landlords thought they’d suffered enough red tape a new threat is looming.

If you would like to take things to the next level and learn more about managing your money and becoming financially free, I invite you to join me on my 1 Day S.M.A.R,T MONEY WorkshopSaturday 19 August 10-5pm (with regular breaks and a lunch).

The UK Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, announced this week that fines will to be more than tripled for employers and landlords who allow illegal migrants to work for them or rent their properties.

The civil or non-criminal penalty for employers, last raised in 2014, will be increased to up to £45,000 per illegal worker for a first breach from £15,000, and up to £60,000 for repeat breaches from £20,000.

Fines will rise from £80 per lodger and £1,000 per occupier for a first breach to up to £5,000 per lodger and £10,000 per occupier.

Repeat offenders will face fines of £10,000 per lodger and £20,000 per occupier, up from £500 and £3,000 respectively.

The higher penalties, which require a lower burden of proof than a criminal prosecution, will be introduced in 2024.

The Home Office will consult on options to strengthen action against licensed businesses who are employing illegal workers later this year.

Almost 5,000 civil penalties have been issued to employers with a total value of £88.4m since 2018.

In the same period, buy-to-let landlords have been hit with over 320 civil penalties valued at £215,500.

Minister for Immigration Robert Jenrick said that employers and landlords should already be checking the eligibility of anyone they employ or let a property to. There are a number of ways to do this, which are not changing, including via a manual check of original documentation and a Home Office online checking system. The online check takes only 5 minutes.

Over 17,000 people have entered the UK illegally this year on small boats from France.

UK inflation fell to 6.8% (from 7.9) this week raising hopes that the Bank of England will hold interest rates at 5,25% - the highest for 15 years - next month.

However, with core inflation unchanged at 6.9% interest rates could rise to 5.5% adding further pressure on the housing market and driving the UK further towards a recession.

We are not out the economic woods yet, so learning how to mange your money has never been so crucial.

Boris Johnson may relax UK Immigration Rules for India in exchange for a trade deal

Following the launch of Britain's new post-Brexit immigration system, the Prime Minister said there is a 'massive shortage ' of IT and programming workers and immigration could be part of a trade deal, the Mirror reports.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has opened the door to an offer on immigration to secure a trade deal with India.

During a visit to India this week, the Prime Minister hinted that the UK could make a visa offer as part of a future free trade agreement with Delhi.

Speaking to the press entourage during the flight to India, he said there was a “massive shortage” of skilled workers in fields like IT and programming in the UK.

"We are aiming for an FTA (free trade agreement) by the end of the year,” he said.

Asked if immigration could be part of the agreement, he said: "On immigration I've always been in favour of having people coming to this country.

"We have a massive shortage in the UK, not least in experts in IT and programmers. We're short to the tune of hundreds of thousands in our economy.

"We need to have a professional approach but it has to be controlled."

The Prime Minister arrived in Ahmedabad this week where he was greeted by Gujarati chief minister Bhupendrabhai Patel. He will take part in several business and cultural visits in Gujarat before travelling to Delhi for talks with India’s PM Narendra Modi on Friday.

Mr Johnson will use his visit to tout more than £1 billion in new investments and export deals, which will create nearly 11,000 jobs across the UK.

A major contract is British-backed space firm OneWeb for satellite launches with New Space India Limited, the commercial arm of the Indian Space Research Organisation.

The satellite company has already engaged with Elon Musk’s Space X after being prevented from using Russian rockets.

The UK needs hundreds of thousands of skilled workers including nurses and IT specialists.

Food Shortages on the way – time to act!

Food shortages and even rationing could be on the way as the Russia Ukraine war continues.

Sanctions against Russia are forcing up the price of everything from oil and gas to wheat and Fertiliser chemicals. This is adding to existing problems of inflation caused by ‘government money creation’, soaring shipping costs and supply chain issues in China.

Farmers are warning of coming food shortages, as items like cooking oil disappear from supermarket shelves.

“Over 36 countries depend on Russia or Ukraine for half their wheat imports”

Antonio Guterres, UN Secretary General

The UN Secretary General warned of rising poverty and added:

·        Wheat up 30%

·        Oil up 60%

·        Natural Gas up 50%

·        Fertiliser up 100%

The National Farmers Union (NFU) reports:

“Ukraine is a major supplier of wheat, barley, maize and oilseeds (particularly sunflower oil and meal) to the global market meeting the needs of an estimated 400 million people worldwide. The interruption of that supply with the closure of the Black Sea ports is being hardest felt in North African and the Middle East countries most reliant on Ukrainian wheat.

“The World Food Programme estimates that its operational costs of feeding food insecure people will increase by €26 million per month compared to current levels, €64 million per month compared to pre-pandemic levels.”

The NFU warns of “an acceleration in the rise of commodity prices”.

“Global commodity prices were already rising steeply as the world economy emerged from the pandemic – over the last 18 months wheat prices have risen nearly 110%, maize and vegetable oil prices are up 140%, and soybean prices are up 90%. The conflict in Ukraine has accelerated the rise in commodity prices, with wheat prices increasing 70% since the invasion.” Source: NFU

Signs of poverty are already being seen in the UK, a wealthy country.

$50 billion was wiped off the value of Netflix as its share price dropped 35% following reports that the company lost 200,000 subscribers in the first quarter of 2022.

More Than 1,000 Migrants Trafficked Across The Channel To Seek Asylum In...

More Than 1,000 Migrants Trafficked Across The English Channel To Seek Asylum In The UK In A Single Day As Government Says 'British Public Have Had Enough'

An estimated 1,000 migrants illegally crossed into the UK on Thursday as the government warns the number of people departing from France with a “bon voyage” message form officials is "unacceptable".

The figure could be the highest ever daily total of migrant crossings into Britain. The previous record for the number of migrants arriving in the UK aboard small boats in a single day is 853, set on 3 November.

A Home Office spokesperson said: "The number of illegal migrants we have seen departing from France today (Thursday) is unacceptable.

"The British public have had enough of seeing people die in the Channel while ruthless criminal gangs profit from their misery and our New Plan for Immigration will fix the broken system which encourages migrants to make this lethal journey."

Children wrapped in blankets were helped ashore in Dover this week, as Border Force and the RNLI rescue service, run by volunteers, responded to a flurry of small boats in the English Channel along the Kent coast.

As we come into the winter season and rougher seas, at least two people have died while trying to attempt the perilous journey and several more have been feared to be lost at sea.

More than 22,300 people have successfully made it to UK shores this year, according to data compiled by the PA news agency - more than double the number for the whole of 2020.

In 2019, Home Secretary Priti Patel promised to make migrant crossings an "infrequent phenomenon" by spring 2020 and then pledged in August last year to "make this route unviable".

The situation is getting worse despite the British government agreeing to pay France £54m to increase immigration controls.

French officials have been accused of helping migrants being illegally trafficked across treacherous waters in small to make it to the UK.

Migrant crisis on the Polish border

Meanwhile, thousands of Syrian and other Middle Eastern refugees are camped in Belarus on the Polish border having unsuccessfully attempted to enter Poland, a gateway to the European Union.

Polish immigration guards have been backed up by thousands of troops from the army to prevent what they say is a Russian sponsored invasion design to destabilise the EU.

In an interview with RT News, one Syrian family said they made the journey, organised by a ‘travel agent’, via Turkey where they spent a lot of money obtaining visas to enter Belarus with a view to crossing the border into Poland. They added that many of their relatives had previously made the trip and were in Germany.

A combination of climate change and the destruction of economies in Syria and Iraq has prompted millions of people to effectively force their way into the West by marching across Europe. They have given up on the usual legal means of applying for asylum or migrating to more prosperous countries.

The crisis will escalate as word spreads through the internet that nobody gets sent back once they arrive in places like the UK.

Someone is making a lot of money out of this – hotels, landlords, lawyers etc.

More UK Work Visas And Government Relaxing Rules On Foreign Driver Deliveries

As the government plans to issue more seasonal working visas to solve to shortage of abattoir workers, the rules on the number of deliveries overseas lorry drivers can make in the UK will be relaxed to tackle supply chain problems in the run-up to Christmas.

Under new plans, European hauliers will be allowed to make unlimited deliveries or collections within a 14 day period. Currently EU drivers can only make two pick-ups or drop-offs each week.

The government hope the changes will be implemented in time to turn the current delivery backlog before Christmas, although UK drivers are complaining that they lose work to cheaper EU rivals.

The UK's heavy goods lorry driver shortage, caused by an aging workforce, lockdown, Brexit and other factors, has caused queues at petrol stations, emptying supermarkets and left containers piled up at Felixstowe Port unable to be moved.

Retailers have also warned there could be shortages of items such as toys at Christmas, with shoppers urged to buy gifts early.

The Home Office has already agreed to up to 5,000 temporary visas for HGV drivers from abroad, as well as 5500 poultry workers, but so far only a fraction have been issued.

And the first foreign drivers brought in on the visa scheme may not even arrive for another month, sources have told BBC.

With other European countries suffering similar shortages, qualified drivers do not have any incentive to give up a permanent job to work in the UK for a few months.

Ministers are now planning rapid changes to cabotage rules, which govern how many jobs a haulier can make in a foreign country and could have an immediate affect on the driver shortage.

Foreign HGV drivers that come into the country laden with goods will be able to pick up and drop off items an unlimited number of times for two weeks before they return home.

The changes require approval after a one-week consultation, but if agreed will come into force "towards the end of this year for up to six months", according to the government.

The new flexible rules will free up thousands more HGV deliveries each month, the government said, so more goods - especially food and items that come via ports - can get delivered on schedule.

With 1.2 million job vacancies, including 100,000 HGV drivers and 500,000 agricultural workers, business leaders want the government to do more to help.

Business chiefs in London have criticised the ‘Shortage Occupations’ list of only 30 skilled jobs, which includes ballet dancers and first violinists, but not enough to deal with many other acute skills gaps.

The multi-billion pound hospitality industry, vital for London’s economy, has 188,000 vacancies, according to the trade body UK Hospitality.

There is a separate list for education and healthcare workers, such as nurses which are in short supply in the UK.

Employers wants the Migration Advisory Committee, which compiles the list, to respond faster to business needs.

The growing farming crisis has forced the Home Office to issue 800 temporary seasonal 6-month work visas to foreign abattoir butchers to avoid thousands of pigs being culled and going to waste. Environment Secretary George Eustice said the requirement for butchers to be fluent in English will not be dropped.

UK Government Consider Temporary Working Visa Changes To Solve Driver And Agricultural Staff Shortages

UK Government Consider Temporary Working Visa Changes To Solve Driver And Staff Shortages

The UK Environment Secretary has confirmed that the government is weighing up options on how to deal with growing labour shortages in the food sector.

George Eustice said the government was considering whether changes could be made to the Seasonal Agricultural Workers' Scheme (SAWS) - the temporary working visa quota-based scheme that allows farmers to recruit overseas for seasonal jobs.

Trade bodies have warned of panic-buying and food shortages this Christmas unless urgent action is taken to address the lack of staff and thousands of job vacancies in the UK.

Some blame the shortages on Covid and Brexit, but staff shortages have been building up for years.

Mr Eustice said "the reality that there is an acute labour shortage at the moment across the UK economy".

The SAWS scheme allowed 30,000 temporary workers to admitted to the UK this year to fill job vacancies in agriculture - mostly working on fruit and vegetable farms. Migrants have long filled farming jobs, like picking and packing of produce, that British workers refuse to do.

Mr Eustice added that there are "some real concerns about how we'll deal with that spike in demand in the two weeks up to Christmas".

"We have SAWS and we're looking at options as to how we can change the focus of that and we hope to be able to say something on this shortly," he continued.

When asked if he would be looking at changes to visas to address workforce shortages, Transport Secretary Grant Shapps said on Thursday: "If that was actually the solution, I'm sure we would move to it quickly and I don't rule out anything."

500,000 unfilled agricultural job vacancies

The National Farmers' Union (NFU) has called for another emergency visa to allow firms to recruit from outside the UK.

But Prime Minister Boris Johnson said he does "not believe people will be short of food" this autumn and winter, amid reports of some gaps on supermarket shelves.

Mr Eustice has previously said the government wanted to monitor whether workers who may be made redundant when the furlough schemes finish at the end of September could instead enter the labour market where there are shortages. Those include areas such as lorry driving or meat processing.

However, he said if that did not happen "then the beauty of a controlled immigration system is you can take steps to allow people to come in on temporary visas should you want".

NFU head Minette Batters warned ministers that the food and farming sector is on a "knife edge" because of labour shortages across the entire supply chain.

The letter, signed on behalf of a number of food and drink trade bodies, called for the introduction of a Covid-19 recovery visa to open up new recruitment opportunities.

"Without it, more shelves will go empty and consumers will panic buy to try to get through the winter," Ms Batters wrote.

Referring to an earlier NFU report, Ms Batters said that there were an estimated 500,000 unfilled vacancies in the industry.

Due to the shortages, some farmers have resorted to giving fruit and vegetables away rather than let it rot in their fields. Source: BBC

As well as the potential food shortage this Christmas, driver shortages are being blamed BP for growing fuel shortages in the UK.

The Home Office could include HGV Drivers on the shortage occupation list which would enable employers to apply for longer term working visas (work permits) to fill diver job vacancies.

This would fly in the face of the Brexit principle of controlling our borders and cutting immigration to boost jobs and pay for British workers.
